Personal Interests

Dr. Irwin and his wife, Simone, have four children. His hobbies include golf, mountain hiking, motorcycles and spending time with his grandchildren.

Biography

Dr. John Irwin grew up in Hillsboro, Texas (pop. 6,000) and subsequently graduated with honors from the University of Texas at Austin. He was also an honors graduate of Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. Dr. Irwin served two years in the U.S. Navy at Guantanamo Bay and then returned to Houston for his Ob/Gyn residency training.

Upon completion of his residency, Dr. Irwin joined OBGYN Medical Center Associates in 1978. Under his leadership as President of Obstetrical and Gynecological Associates for more than a decade, OBGYN Medical Center Associates expanded beyond the Texas Medical Center Area into Houston’s suburban communities. He is currently a Clinical Associate Professor at Baylor College of Medicine, Chief of Surgery at The Woman’s Hospital of Texas and serves on the Medical Executive Committee of Fannin Surgicare. Dr. Irwin is widely published and frequently gives lectures/conducts seminars on numerous medical and scientific topics. 
His clinical interests include abnormal pap smears and HPV infection, infertility and menopause.

Dr. Irwin has been a pioneer in minimally invasive surgery and has performed hundreds of laparoscopic hysterectomies and other gynecologic procedures that improve the quality of life for women. Dr. Irwin’s extensive expertise in obstetrics includes management and delivery of routine, high-risk and multiple pregnancies. He is accomplished in all aspects of women’s health care.

Dr. Irwin earns high praise from both peers and patients. He is consistently voted a Texas Monthly “Super Doctor” and appears on several national “Top Doc” lists as well.
